Opening of the John Vernon Field
The new all-weather surface (hockey, soccer, tennis, athletics, netball, basketball etc) situated at the northern end of Grammar has been a sensational addition to Grammar’s sporting facilities and complements the Rintel Centre beautifully.
Honouring John Vernon (’47), the Board has named the new All-Weather Surface as the ‘John Vernon Field’. John represented Australia as a world-class high jumper at Empire Games in Christchurch, 1950, and Vancouver, 1954, and in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. He won three Australian High Jump Champion titles.
On Friday 17 June the School was delighted to officially name and open The John Vernon Field. It was wonderful to have John’s good friend, The Hon John Landy AC CVO MBE in attendance. In fact, four Olympians were at the event including past staff member Bob Bath.
