Year 7


The transition into Year 7 is an important time for all students. They have an inquisitive nature, boundless energy, and an enthusiasm for learning. Accordingly, students at Ballarat Grammar are exposed to a curriculum that is engaging, practically-oriented and diverse. This gives students the opportunity to broaden their outlook on the world as they begin to see some of the different ways we can understand and experience the world. It also assists in the development of more independence in learning, a particular focus of the Year 9 program.

Students in Year 7 participate in learning experiences in the following:

English, Mathematics, Science and Technology

Ancient History, Geography, French, Mandarin, Latin (one Term)

Visual Art, Music, Health and Physical Education

Beliefs and Values

Extra English is available for students who require it. Enrichment and extension is available within class programs. For students needing particular enrichment or extension, the Ad Astra (“To the stars”) program offers a diverse and challenging range of options.

Year 7 also participate in the Outdoor Education program as part of the compulsory curriculum.

Year 8


As students move into Year 8, their learning needs change, and so does the curriculum to reflect these changes. Students are wanting to explore even more ideas and experiences that interest them, so a greater level of choice is offered to students through the introduction of Elective subjects.

Students in Year 8 participate in core learning experiences in the following:

English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History

Geography, Visual Art, Health and Physical Education,
Beliefs and Values

Students may select from the following Electives:

French, Chinese, Latin, Music Appreciation, Drama,
Writer’s Workshop,Visual Communication & Design,

Challenge Studies
(students negotiate challenging projects to complete)
