Boarding at Ballarat Grammar

-
At Ballarat Grammar, the supervising staff, drawn from the ranks of the senior teaching staff, aim to keep the students happy and positively motivated towards their studies. The Academic Outcomes are that students often achieve outstanding results
-
Happiness is vital to the new boarder – if the child is happy, so are you, the parents. If he or she is miserable, then parents worry. There is an obviously direct relationship between happiness and a boarder's academic progress.
-
Security and Safety: these are of paramount importance, and initiatives in recent years have enhanced parents' confidence in their children's security.
Supervision of homework. At Ballarat Grammar, careful supervision of homework is often conducted by senior teachers covering most subjects nightly for tuition and guidance.
-
After School and weekend Activities. Busy minds lead productive lives. At Ballarat Grammar the wide range of sporting and musical opportunities is enhanced by weekend activities which include surfing, horse-riding, mountain bike riding, theatre visits and community service. Boarders are encouraged to participate in the School’s exchange program; our students exchange beds for a term with a student from one of 50 Round Square schools covering five continents. The international flavour of the Houses is significant in broadening understanding and fostering insight and tolerance.
-
Protection of the individuality of the child. A good boarding house will take great care to protect the privacy and sensitivity of the growing adolescent. At Ballarat Grammar student accommodation varies from single, double, three or four-bed studies depending upon age level. There is an emphasis upon privacy without loneliness.
-
Care for the students: The Supervision of each House aims to strike a balance between ensuring the child remains part of the School’s corporate life and allowing easy and reasonable contact with the house community. Each Head of House provides care which is dictated by the question “What would I do if this were my child?” Pastoral care is an integral part of the Grammar community.
-
The School must be Accessible…..our School is NOT in Melbourne and there is easy access to country areas. We encourage parents to visit, to share a meal in the Dining Hall and to stay overnight.
Family Values: At Ballarat Grammar the Houses are full of normal, happy kids from stable homes who are keen to be involved. We aim to ensure that children relate easily to one another and to the House Staff and are eager to show off the House Spirit at Parent-House functions such as House Dinners. We offer a unique mother/daughter, father/son weekends when relationships can be strengthened. And our co-educational boarding environment is a natural extension of normal family structure.
