FROM THE HEADMASTER

Our students bring life and vibrancy to our school. They bring aspiration, ambition, joyfulness, energy and optimism.

Our job is to nurture, challenge and guide them: To inspire their curiosity and to help them to find their way, their purpose, supporting them to find and follow their passions. We encourage our students to explore who they might be, what they might do, and how they might contribute to the world, now and in the future.

Our students understand that success is defined only by their aspiration; that their life’s achievement will ultimately be determined by their preparedness to live meaningfully, to work hard to create opportunities and to be active in citizenship, in pursuit of a just, healthy and positive society. They draw confidence from the trusting, respectful relationships that they nurture and that nurture them, knowing that individual difference is valued as bringing strength to the whole, building in them a deep sense of belonging.

Girls and boys learn best together because co-education reflects reality and prepares our students for a life of respect.  Boarding as our home-away-from-home creates those same opportunities for our rural and regional families.  Our regional School has country values as its heart and soul, whilst constantly looking to global connectedness, cultural diversity and national and international opportunity.

We understand clearly the magnitude of our responsibility, the trust that parents place in us, the trust and opportunity that every young person deserves.  Our commitment is to nurture the whole – mind, body and soul; we will build intellectual curiosity, instil learning agility and demonstrate learning mastery. We challenge our students to build character, creating lifetime habits that sustain health and wellbeing. Our students emerge adaptable and flexible, with the grit that allows them to be resilient in the face of life’s inevitable challenges.

But none of this will be news to you because you have been nurturing these same qualities as parents.  We are simply joining you as partners in the next chapters of your child’s life journey.  As a School community, we work together, modelling the positive choices about how we will live, looking for ways to contribute to a better future, a better community, a better world. In learning, we acknowledge we don’t have all the answers as we explore problems with curiosity and reflection, bringing fun and a sense of adventure.

The accelerating pace of change in our world, global challenges and the recent bruising experience of a pandemic have brought into sharp focus our life’s priorities.  Throughout the School’s long history we have sought reassurance and guidance in the face of challenge through living our Essence and fulfilling our commitment to our Anglican values; to care for one other, staying true to doing the right thing. To serve. To innovate, and to remain optimistic.  To courageously create the very best for the future.
