Learning at Home Support
During these unprecedented times, we are immensely proud of our staff, students and families in embracing our Learning at Home program. Ballarat Grammar’s teaching and learning practices have continued in an online context throughout our different campuses as follows:
Centre for Early Education – Using Seesaw to share activities, learning opportunities and resources with our youngest students. There are some wonderful suggestions for Indoor and Outdoor play with younger (and older!) children from the CEEd.
Junior School – Using Seesaw on a daily basis to share English, Mathematics, Unit of Inquiry and Specialist Activities for students to complete. Alongside this staff and students are also using Zoom to meet for pastoral care and academic check in sessions throughout the day. Hardcopy resources are also being posted home at various points throughout the term to supplement our program. The Junior School Learning at Home Guide is a useful reference.
Middle & Senior Schools – Continued use of Nexus to maintain the delivery of our daily teaching and learning, while using Microsoft Teams and Zoom for pastoral check ins, LIVE academic lessons, assemblies and House activities.
Distance Education Services – We are very mindful that some of our students lack strong internet connections and other resources to continue learning at home in an online context. We are providing resources such as hard copy materials and USBs full of resources to these students via Australia Post.
Resources for parents working at home with kids from the University of Sydney – Tips and resources from teacher educator and homeschooling parent, Dr Nikki Brunker, that will keep your kids engaged and learning while they are at home. There are also some great tips for families with older children.
The Brain Architects podcast – Dr. Jack Shonkoff and host Sally Pfitzer discuss how to support healthy child development during a pandemic, how pediatricians are responding, and how to support younger children (and yourself) during this time.
