Smith House Celebrate 30 Years and Honours Alan Pitson’s Leadership

Smith House had much to celebrate in 2025, marking 30 years since its founding in 1996 and honouring its namesake, former Headmaster Barry Smith.

This year also saw Smith’s first Chorals victory, a win at the Aquatic Carnival, a strong second place at Athletics, and 15 years of Alan “Pito” Pitson’s outstanding leadership.

Nearly 200 guests attended the House Dinner, including members of Pito’s Tutorial and Mentor Groups from 2012, 2018, 2020 and 2024. All past Heads of Smith House were present, with inaugural Head Doug “Douggie” Rose joining the celebrations. Pito’s extraordinary 33 years as a Head of House including time at Hayhoe and Dart were warmly acknowledged, along with the invaluable contribution of Debbie Pitson across all three Houses.

As a gesture of thanks, Smith House presented Pito with a signed shirt, before the evening concluded with laughter and memorable stories of his time in Smith. In Pito’s words: “Job done!”
