  • ACADEMIC

    REGISTRATIONS FOR 2025 ENTRY ARE NOW CLOSED

    • Testing for entry in 2026 will take place at Ballarat Grammar on Saturday 26 October 2024
    • Testing is conducted by the Edutest group, each student is provided with a diagnostic report of their achievement on the test.
    • Scholarships are open to students entering Years 5 to 11 in 2026.

  • Music

    Performing Arts scholarships are available to students who can demonstrate talent and the potential for a high level of involvement in the Performing Arts opportunities at Ballarat Grammar. Scholarships provide a percentage reduction of tuition fees for a specified duration or until the end of Year 12. Additionally, Music scholarships provide a half-hour instrumental music lesson per week on one instrument, to a maximum of nine lessons per term, provided by a Ballarat Grammar music teacher or an external teacher approved by the School.

    Music scholarships are offered to students entering Year 5 – Year 11 in 2026. Opportunities to be involved in the Performing Arts at Ballarat Grammar are provided through the core curriculum and electives, including VCE and VCE VET Music, VCE Dance and VCE Theatre Studies. Performance opportunities are provided through a large and varied ensemble program and solo performances. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in at least two ensembles and/or choirs.

    A minimum standard applies to most instruments. Applicants should have no less than three years’ experience or provide a reference or recommendation from their instrumental teacher. More than one instrument may be presented at the audition. Pianists should be at least AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent standard.

    Don Huntley Memorial Scholarship
    Open to exceptional pianists of AMEB Grade 7 standard or higher.

    Pipe Organ Scholarship
    Open to any student interested in pipe organ. Experienced pianists desirable.

    Once registered, applicants will be required to attend an interview/audition at the School with our Performing Arts staff on Saturday 26 October 2024 (audition opportunities may be available on Friday 25 October 2024).

    Music applicants will be expected to:

    1. Present two contrasting works and technical work (scales and exercises) that demonstrate their technical ability and performance skills.
    2. Undertake aural testing and unprepared performance (sight-reading and/or improvisation).
    3. Attend a brief interview in which students are encouraged to present a portfolio showing their training, achievements and experience in Music.

    Where applicable, scholarship applicants should perform with accompaniment (e.g. piano or pre-recorded backing track) for at least one of their contrasting works. The School Accompanist is available by request at no additional cost. A named copy of your music, with piano accompaniment where applicable, should be submitted with your application prior to the closing date.

    Applicants will be notified as soon as possible after the application closing date of their audition and interview time. Application Fee $50.

    Drama Scholarships are offered to students entering Year 7 – Year 11 in 2026.

    Opportunities to be involved in the Performing Arts at Ballarat Grammar are provided through the core curriculum and electives, including VCE Theatre Studies, VCE Dance and VCE and VCE VET Music. The School Musical, School Productions, and specialist workshops also provide additional opportunities.

    Once registered, applicants will be required to attend an interview and audition at the School with Performing Arts Staff on Saturday 26 October 2024 (audition opportunities may be available on Friday 25 October 2024).

    Drama applicants will be expected to:

    1. Present a set audition piece of no longer than two minutes duration that demonstrates their technical ability and performance skills. Audition material, with final information, will be emailed to applicants the week prior to the audition.
    2. Attend a brief interview in which students are encouraged to present a portfolio showing their training, achievements and experience in Theatre/Drama.

Scholarships provide a percentage reduction of tuition fees for a specified duration or until the end of Year 12.

    Dance Scholarships are offered to students entering Year 7 – Year 11 in 2026.

  • ART AND DESIGN

    Art and Design Scholarships are available to students who can demonstrate a special aptitude and likely potential in the Art and Design area. Scholarships provide a percentage reduction of tuition fees from entry to the end of Year 12, or for a designated period. Art and Design Scholarships are offered to students entering Years 7 to 11 in 2026.

    Opportunities within the curriculum are provided for students from Year 7 to Year 12 to participate in the following studio areas:

    Ceramics Digital Media Painting and Drawing Photography

    Printmaking Product Design Systems Engineering Textiles

    Visual Communication and Design

    Art and Design is a core subject in Years 7, 8 and an elective in Year 9. In Year 10, students may choose from the above subjects as a semester subject. Students keen on beginning VCE in Year 10 may study Units 1 and 2 of VCE Studio Arts. At Years 11 and 12 students may choose to study one or more of the following VCE courses:

    VCE Art Creative Practice

    VCE Visual Communication Design VCE Art Making and Exhibiting VCE Media

    VCE Product Design (Fashion) VCE Product Design (Wood) VCE Systems Engineering

    Applicants are required to submit a digital folio of their creative work for consideration before Wednesday 16 October 2024. Folios will be reviewed by the Art and Design team and applicants who demonstrate special aptitude and ability will be shortlisted and invited to attend an interview and practical task assessment on Saturday 26 October 2024 (with the possibility of some testing opportunities on Friday 25 October 2024).

    The Scholarship will be awarded as a result of a submission of a folio of the applicants’ creative work, an interview and the completion of a practical task.

  • BOARDING GENERAL EXCELLENCE BURSARY

    BOARDING GENERAL EXCELLENCE BURSARY REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN

    • We have a high level of interest for boarding in all year levels in the coming years, so early enquiries are strongly recommended.
    • Boarding General Excellence Bursaries are open to students who demonstrate general excellence through their capacity to contribute to the life of our school in the broadest sense. We are looking for a record of contribution and achievement in a range of areas such as sport, community service, leadership and the arts, as well as academic potential.
    • Boarding students are also invited to sit for any of the above scholarships.

    If you would like to discuss a Bursary to support excellence in an area not listed, we encourage you to contact us.

    Isolated Childrens’ Bursaries for families who are eligible for the Federal Government Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme (AIC) may be considered for a Bursary where the student is not the recipient of any other Bursary or Scholarship.
