  • Ballarat Grammar Foundation

The Ballarat Grammar Foundation was established in 1981 as the organisation through which financial support for the School is directed and funds distributed.

The role of the Foundation is to plan and ensure that the vision for the School continues into the future for many generations to come by assisting with the provision of Scholarships and Bursaries and the funding of capital works for facilities over and above what is provided by School fees and government grants.

Ballarat Grammar has thrived on its community’s philanthropic support, which has been a consistent part of our School’s history. Our proud history dates back to 1877 when Queen’s College was established. The Anglican Diocese founded Ballarat Grammar School in 1911. In 1973 these two great schools combined to form Ballarat and Queen’s Anglican Grammar School, today is known as Ballarat Grammar. A regional Anglican School, we are inspired by the values of openness and inclusivity.

Currently, the Foundation operates two funds to which you can direct your gift: the Endowed Fund (Scholarships and Bursaries) and the Building Fund (Capital works), which are tax-deductible.

The Foundation is led by the President, Phillip Mann, and our Director of Development is Travis Polkinghorne.

We are so grateful to our school community for their generous support including Old Grammarians, current and past parents, staff, and friends, all of whom have contributed significantly over the years.

When you donate to the Ballarat Grammar Foundation, your gift will help support scholarships, provide funds to invest in updating our facilities and support programs that would otherwise not be available.

  • Scholarships

Scholarships have been a consistent part of Ballarat and Queen’s Anglican Grammar School’s history. Scholarships have been awarded since 1911. There have been many examples of philanthropic support for students who may otherwise have been unable to attend school or assistance for those whose families had fallen on difficult times.

Through the provision of Scholarships, Ballarat Grammar is able to offer and encourage a diversity of student life which is one of the fundamental strengths of our educational offering to students and families.

Named Scholarship and Bursary funds include The Rob and Di Olston Boarding Scholarship Fund and The Ford Guthrie Scholarship Fund. See our Named Scholarships page for more information.

Please browse our Scholarships information brochure on how scholarship donations play an important role at the School.

  • Building Fund

Whilst all levels of support to the Building Fund are gratefully received and acknowledged, this Fund often provides for significant projects identified by the Headmaster and Board as pivotal to the ongoing delivery of the educational program within the School and as such major gifts are often sought. These gifts may range from $1,000 to more than $1,000,000. They are often pledged over a number of years.

A fine example of the scope of the Building Fund is the Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts, the largest single project undertaken in the School’s history to date.

  • Leave a gift

Generations of Ballarat and Queen’s Anglican Grammar School families and students have benefited from the generosity of men and women who, over the years, have bequeathed gifts to the School or to the School’s Foundation.

These gifts have had a significant impact on the lives of Grammarians, through scholarship opportunities, by developing teaching and learning facilities, and by supporting staff and the School’s programs.

A gift in a will can be a meaningful way of saying thank you, honouring a loved one, recognising a valued member of staff or friend, investing in the future, or providing a Ballarat and Queen’s Anglican Grammar School education for those who otherwise may not be able to join our community.

Bequests are contained within a will and may take several forms, including provision for a scholarship or a particular area of study within the School’s educational program or may be allocated at the discretion of the School. A bequest can stipulate defined personal assets such as property, fixed sums or a percentage of an estate.

“In the quest for a life well lived, we are sometimes afforded opportunity to make a positive difference; a difference to the lives of loved ones, to our communities and to the world around us. Rarely are we offered the opportunity to bring our positive influence to perpetuity. Yours will be a gift that gives to future generations of fine young people. Yours will be a gift that helps provide transformative educational experiences for the next generation. Their future, our opportunity. I welcome you to join us.”

    Adam Heath, Headmaster

    How to leave a gift
Please contact our Director of Development to confidentially discuss your wishes, particularly if you are considering directing your gift to a specific purpose. Your Will is the most precious, personal and final document you have control over, you may be assured that the School will cherish it forever and that our students will benefit daily from your vision for their future.

We would also recommend that you consult with both your family and solicitor before finalising arrangements to ensure that your gift to the School best reflects your personal wishes and situation.
